?The top local trio of Scott Lanser, James Mitchell and Jualon Greig all advanced to the main draw of the second and final leg of the 16th annual IBM International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Tennis Championships yesterday. The one-week tournament served off at the Trinidad Country Club, Maraval and at the Public Courts, King George V Park, St Clair. Under blistering sunshine Lanser competing in a round-robin group of four players had wins over Tyler Murray-Ramcharan (T&T) 4-0, 4-2 and Elan Mendes 5-3, 4-1 at Maraval to secure one of the two qualifying spots available from his group. Mitchell made light work of compatriots Ibrahim Mohammed 4-1, 4-1 and Kyrel Trim 4-1, 4-0 while Greig blanked Ryan Thomas and Gianluc Robinson by similar 4-0, 4-0 margins.
Other qualifiers for the main draw included locals Che Sanchez, Adam Suite, Ty Abraham, Adrian Edwards, Marley Young and Stefan Navarro as well as St Vincent and The Grenadines duo J'Rai Joyette De Silva and Marley Young who won both their matches. Among the Under-14 Girl's, T&T's Breana Stampfli won her two matches to book a main draw berth. The round-robin series will conclude today with main draw matches starting tomorrow. At St Clair, Guyana's Anthony Downes defeated Olesky Abramovsky of Ukraine 6-2, 7-5 to qualify for the Under-18 Boy's main draw which also serves off tomorrow.
In his first match, Downes had beaten American, Aaron Williams, 6-3, 6-4. Another Guyanese player, Duainne Miller began with a 6-1, 6-1 win over St Vincent's Myles Dalrymple, but in his next match he went under to William Topham of the USA 6-2, 6-1 to miss out on qualification.
