?UNC MP Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj said he was uncertain if he would attend today's UNC caucus at which Persad-Bissessar proposes to discuss with MPs and others the issue of assuming the Opposition Leader's post.

Maharaj said at noon yesterday: "I've only just received an invitation to the caucus 'to discuss the appointment' of Opposition Leader and I'll try to get out of my current commitments to attend. "But, it seems that issue has already been discussed by some UNC members and the public in the last three weeks. So why have a caucus now to discuss it with MPs?" He added: "We saw all these headlines about 'eight supporting Kamla,' and other press releases. We accuse the PNM of having no conversations with the unions on the TTRA and other matters when we ourselves are not practising what we preach.

Princes Town MP Subhas Panday said at 12.30 pm yesterday he had not yet received an invitation to the caucus and would have to check his e-mail to see if he was invited. Couva South MP Kelvin Ramnath said: "It makes no sense attending a meeting where the issue is a fait accompli. I'm not sure the meeting will be useful since it should have been held immediately after elections. "But it seems they had no interest in holding a meeting of all the MPs – which myself and others had called for – since they engaged in cloak-and-dagger tactics to get the support they needed."
