The T&T Guardian's editorial team has been strengthened from today by the addition of Irving Ward, who will take on the role of editor of the daily paper. Ward is no stranger to the T&T Guardian newsroom, having previously been a news editor here.
More recently, he has gained experience as a news editor at the Trinidad Express and Sunday editor at Newsday before returning to St Vincent Street. An old boy of Queen's Royal College, Ward earned his journalistic spurs on the sports desk before moving into mainstream news. He is currently completing a communications degree at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine.
In another move to boost the paper's coverage of all the news, Suzanne Sheppard will take on the newly-created post of business news editor, a step that will help to further consolidate the T&T Guardian's position as the business paper. Sheppard will be responsible for managing the T&T Guardian's daily business pages, breaking news stories and managing the paper's coverage of daily business news assignments.
This will enable Anthony Wilson, our chief editor, Business, to focus on building on the strength of specialist publications such as the Business Guardian, as well as enhancing business coverage at the T&T Guardian's sister TV station CNC3. Sheppard has covered the business beat previously in the course of a long and varied career, which she began as a court and crime reporter at the T&T Guardian.
More recently, she was features editor at Newsday before returning home to Guardian Media Ltd two years ago as the editor of the daily paper. Sheppard is also the interim president of the Media Association. Ward can be reached at irving.ward@guardian.co.tt, while Sheppard's e-mail address remains suzanne.sheppard@guardian.co.tt.
