Stampfli shows her class in El Salvador

Na­tion­al ju­nior ten­nis play­er Bre­ana Stampfli, breezed through the Co­pa Dun­lop ITF Ju­nior Ten­nis tour­na­ment in El Sal­vador last week, on­ly los­ing one set on her way to the Girls Sin­gles Un­der-18 ti­tle.

In Sat­ur­day's fi­nal against Amer­i­can Cristi­na Rovi­ra, num­ber-two ranked Stampfli cruised to a 6-4, 6-3 vic­to­ry. In the ear­li­er rounds, Stampfli had a rel­a­tive­ly easy run to the fi­nal. In semi­fi­nal ac­tion, Stampfli eased past Vi­viana Ono­ra­to of Venezuela 6-2, 6-2.

Stampfli got a scare in her quar­ter­fi­nal match against Ju­lia Es­het of USA, com­ing from be­hind to win in three sets. Es­het won the first set 6-3, but Stampfli showed her re­silience to win the next two sets, 6-2, 6-0.

Nan­cy Men­ji­var of Spain was no match for Stampfli in round two, as the lat­ter won 6-1, 6-0 af­ter earn­ing a first round bye.
