The walls of the PP Government's Jericho are tumbling down, says PNM Senator Fitzgerald Hinds. Speaking before yesterday's Senate session, Hinds said: "We felt Mrs Mary King should have resigned, given the standards she had espoused as Transparency International (TI) chairman, during the last election and even when she was an Independent senator. "She should not have stuck around to have been fired...But not having had the integrity to do that, it was quite right the Prime Minister had to ask the President to relieve her of her duties because she (King) acted rather foolishly," he said. "I suspect she allowed her parently and wifely emotions to get the better of her. "But it really tells us a lot of hard evidence about this Government...A lot of them came together to form the PP and never had any shared philosophy or tested integrity.
"The walls of their Jericho are now tumbling down... I saw PP senators David Abdulah looking sombre, he now understands those pillars are crumbling. "They're also dealing with allegations about Jack Warner and Fifa, made in the UK Parliament yesterday. "But we had warned them that all that glitters is not gold and we now see they are only fighting over the spoils of office and trying to get even with the PNM. "They don't know how to run a country...I'm sure they can't run a successful shop or barra business." Independent Senate bench leader Basharrat Ali said he felt King should have resigned. "From what I read, she had no grounds to stand on. The only thing good about this is that it was dealt with quickly," he said. (GA)
