Bernadette Alexis, wife of Selwyn "Robocop" Alexis, one of the 16 men who had been detained during the state of emergency, said yesterday she was terrified her husband could be killed by police as soon as he was released from custody. She spent most of yesterday making security arrangements for her husband, who was detained for allegedly conspiring to assassinate Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Attorney General Anand Ramlogan, Housing Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal and Local Government Minister Chandresh Sharma.

During a brief interview yesterday, Alexis said she was worried about Robocop's safety because, she claimed, he had a lot of "police enemies."She added: "I know this would have been the outcome. It never had a plot. Right now all I am thinking about is Robo's safety and security. "He has a lot of enemies in the police so we are making special security arrangements for him."

Asked what she planned to cook for her husband, Alexis said: "I didn't have time to plan that. Robo eats whatever I cook. If I ask him what he wants to eat, he would say anything."She said during his incarceration, her husband ate biscuits and cheese. "He don't ever eat their food so he eats what we bring for him." she said.Alexis said she last spoke to her husband several days ago and she was happy he was still in good health.

She explained that Robocop's main concern was to catch the ear of the Prime Minister and tell her what he knew about the alleged plot."I don't know what he wants to say to her but he wants to get his message across. I hope she listens through the media because we know she will not want to meet with him," she said.Alexis said her husband would take legal action against the State for his illegal incarceration. She added: "I know he is a victim of the police. Since all of this happened, he has his own views which he will share. He will surely take action against the State because they abused their power.

"Internationally we are a laughing stock. People from all over the world knew this was a cover-up of something. Government cannot fool everybody all the time." Arrested along with Robocop in connection with a plot to assassinate the Prime Minister and destabilise the country were Islamic cleric Ashmead Chote, Shane Crawford, Chionesu Luqman, Sgt Earl Elie, David Millard, Milton Algernon, William Taylor, Andy Brown, Yohann Cruickshank, Bryan Barrington, Khalil Karamath, Ashmeed Mohammed, Zaid Hamid, Dominic Pitilal and Abdool Kareem.
