First year bmobile Joe Public coach Derek King's dream season continued on Wednesday night when he led the club to its fourth title of the season and most precious of them all, the T&T Football Federation FA Trophy, with a 3-2 extra-time win over W Connection. With the seconds ticking away in regulation time, W Connection looked on course for its fourth FA Trophy in six finals, however it was not to be as W Connection Colombian defender Eder Gilmar Arias conceded a last minute own goal off a left-sided centre from substitute Gorean Highley to level the match at 2-2 before Conrod Smith broke the "Savonetta Boys" hearts with a late winner.
The FA win added to the Digicel Pro League, "Big Six" and Toyota Classic titles already won this season and with a chance at a fifth crown tonight against Caledonia AIA in the Digicel Pro Bowl, King is set to rewrite the record Pro League books.
After the win a beaming King, soaked in champagne said, "It's really a joy. I feel that after this year I have to retire," he added jokingly.
"I really have to thank the guys, it was a collective effort. They showed good character and played for each other." King a former W Connection player, admitted the contest was a hard-fought one. "In extra-time I told the players that once we don't give away anything in the back we will put away chances up front, because we were creating them even with ten men," said King. Baptiste, who is having the time of his career with 48 goals added, "Without team effort, I don't anything would have been achieved this year. We have a good team and it's always a collective effort from us at Joe Public."
