?UNC MP Vasant Bharath, who has stood beside Opposition leader Basdeo Panday, confirmed yesterday he would support incoming Opposition Leader Kamla Persad -Bissessar.

Bharath, former UNC vice chairman, is expected to attend today's UNC caucus held by Persad-Bissessar regarding the post and other matters. Bharath who was recently strongly wooed by the new UNC executive, said of his position: "At the end of the day, the lady (Persad-Bissessar) is the party leader and about to be Opposition Leader, therefore I have no choice but to support her, although I do have some reservations which I intend to discuss with her and this concerns a graceful exit strategy for Mr Panday as Opposition Leader.

"We as a people will always be judged by how we deal with our elders and children therefore that is why I have stuck it out with Mr Panday." Bharath added: "I had given Mr Panday my word and stood by him during the party election process but now that process is over and Mrs Persad-Bissessar has been elected, etc, so I don't think I have much choice in the matter." Contacted yesterday, Panday had no comment on Bharath's action.
