Shiva Boys will now take on El Dorado East in the final of the 2010 Powergen Secondary Schools Cricket League Under-14 Tournament set for Friday at the National Cricket Centre Balmain, Couva, from 10 am. An all-round performance from Samuel Roopnarine helped Shiva of Debe earned final berth of the 35-Overs contest with a three wicket win over St Stephens College of Princes Town in their semifinal match-up at the Debe Dial Recreational ground yesterday.
Roopnarine, who had earlier taken two wickets, returned with the bat to lead his team with a half century (52), as it chased down a victory target of 95, making 98-7 in 23.1 overs. St Stephen, which stunned Naparima in the quarterfinal, taking first strike, was bundled out for 94, with Avanesh Lalsingh making 15. Denesh Ramlal had 2-9 while Roopnarine had 2-19. El Do, which defeated Manzanilla in the quarterfinal was on a bye to the final.
North, South clash in key BG T&T U-13 Match
Meanwhile North and South, which have both claimed two wins, will clash in match to decide which zone will top Group B in the 2010 BG T&T Zonal Under-13 cricket tournament in the final preliminary round today. While both teams have already booked semifinal spots, the fight will be for the top spot, since the second place team will face favourite, Central in the semifinal.
The first place team will face Tobago in the other semifinal. Central which has won both of its two Group A matches, against the defending champion East and Tobago, will aim to make it three in a row when it faces winless South West at Rosillac ground. The other match another Group B encounter, a battle of two winless teams, North East will take on host South East at the Cunjal Recreational ground.
