The Bum­ble Bee Foods has is­sued a re­call for thou­sands of cans of tu­na in the US due to a po­ten­tial health threat if con­sumed. Cur­rent­ly Massy Dis­tri­b­u­tion, the com­pa­ny re­spon­si­ble for dis­trib­ut­ing the prod­uct, is try­ing to de­ter­mine if these re­called cans are in T&T stores, but no con­t­a­m­i­nat­ed cans have as yet been found.

A re­lease from the of­fi­cial Bum­ble Bee web­site stat­ed, "Bum­ble Bee Foods is vol­un­tar­i­ly re­call­ing spe­cif­ic codes of 5oz Chunk Light Tu­na in Wa­ter and Oil, due to process de­vi­a­tions which oc­curred in a co-pack fa­cil­i­ty not owned or op­er­at­ed by Bum­ble Bee."

Bum­ble Bee found an is­sue with the ster­il­i­sa­tion process that could lead to a life-threat­en­ing sick­ness if eat­en. The com­pa­ny said in the US, 31,579 cas­es of tu­na were so far af­fect­ed by the re­call.

"Un­der-processed af­fect­ed prod­ucts could re­sult in prod­uct con­t­a­m­i­na­tion by spoilage or­gan­isms or pathogens and lead to se­ri­ous ill­ness if con­sumed. There have been no re­ports to date of any ill­ness as­so­ci­at­ed with these prod­ucts," the re­lease went on to say.

Ter­ri Ramkissoon, brand man­ag­er for Massy Dis­tri­b­u­tion, said: "Cur­rent­ly we have a team in­ves­ti­gat­ing. We are check­ing with our sup­pli­er to find out what ter­ri­to­ry the re­called prod­uct was sent to."

Ramkisson said if there are the re­called prod­ucts they will do their best to rec­ti­fy the mat­ter.
