T&T's national darts team will depart today en route to two tournaments, the 20th Caribbean Cup and the seventh WDF Americas Cup which will run from July 12-21 in Tampa Florida, USA.
The team comprises Richard Cedeno, Ricardo Spencer, Lester Legall, Edmund Mathura, Felix Le Blanc, James Walkin, Kearn Samuels, Kevin Jacob, Patricia Massiah, Peta DeSouza, Abi-Gail Jacobs and Charmaine Harrington-Marshall. Roger Christopher will lead the team as coach, while Kevin Spencer is the manager. The team has been in training for the past six months and is expected to perform at a high level, as they seek to return with the championship and the majority of individual trophies.
T&T has won the men's singles twice since its inception in 1983. Nolan Little and Lester Legall won it in 1986 and 2010, respectively. The team now has a good chance of claiming glory in the likes of Ricardo Spencer and James Walkins, the latter of whom is in the form of his life.
Among the ladies, Pera DeSouza is in fine form and may go all the way. The Caribbean "dart queen" Nanette Brooks, who won the women's singles title twicce before, was unfortunately ruled out of this year's trials due to injury.
