This country's senior women's football team gained a morale boosting 6-0 victory over the Marco Soccer Academy XI in their final warm-up match in Mexico City on Tuesday, prior to their departure for Ecuador where they will play that country's team in a first-leg of the 2015 Canada FIFA Women's World Cup playoff.
The match is carded for the Estadio Olimpico Atahualpa, Quito, from 2 pm on Saturday. The return-leg in T&T takes place on December 2.
The home of ESPOLI football team, the Estadio Olimpico Atahualpa is a multi-purpose stadium currently used mostly for football matches and has a capacity of 40,948.
Built in 1951, football clubs Deportivo Quito, El Nacional and Universidad Catolica use the facility for their home games, although other prominent teams in the city have used the stadium for home games in the past. The stadium is named after Inca prince Atahualpa and is located at an elevation of 2,782 metres (9,127 ft).
At this venue, the Ecuadorian national football team has beaten Brazil twice, Paraguay twice, and Argentina twice, amongst others, securing their positions in Korea/Japan 2002 and Germany 2006. During the qualifying for Germany 2006, Ecuador qualified and remained undefeated in that stadium.
On Tuesday, T&T got a first-half goal from a fit-again Tasha St Louis to go into half-time with a slim advantage before taking full control in the second-half with Ahkeela Mollon notching a double and Candice Edwards, Kennya Cordner and Dernelle Mascall adding one each.
Yesterday, the T&T women and coach Randy Waldrum arrived in Guayaquil and will journey to Quito on Friday ahead of the World Cup playoff away leg on Saturday.
American Waldrum said he was satisfied with the run of events during the training camp in Mexico City at the CECAP High Performance centre, which is one of three operation centres used by the Mexican Football Federation.
"It was a very useful exercise for us over the past few days," Waldrum said. "The players were comfortable and we had access to excellent facilities.
"It was what we wanted here at altitude, a good run before going back down to sea level in Guayaquil ahead of the game back at altitude in Quito."
