T&T defender Joevin Jones will captain a 27-man DirecTV W Connection squad which will contest the 2013/2014 Concacaf Champions League, beginning on Thursday with a clash againsrt Arabe Unido of Panama.
The selection was made by head coach and technical director Stuart Charles Fevrier, who fell just short of the alotted 30 players leaving room for three additions as the competition progresses.
The Savonetta Boys will open its account agast Arabe Unido on Thursday at the Rommel Fernandez Stadium, Panama City.
Jones, who was one of the top players in T&T's successful challenge of the Concacaf Gold Cup last month leads a W Connection team which boasts six new foreign signings including the likes of 24-year-old former Italian youth international striker Mirko Delia, 21-year-old full back Joao Ananias Jordao Jr, 25-year-old midfielder Celio Duilherme Da Silva Santos (both of Brazil) and three Colombians: 21-year-old midfielders Yhon Reyes Lopez and Yefer Lozano Rubiano, and 23-year-old striker Camilo Ortega Diaz.
Also included are youngsters Neil Benjamin and Jomal "Beebo" Williams who were omitted from last year's Champions League campaign due to national duties with the T&T men's Under-20 team.
While on tour, the team played several training matches in its preparation for the Champions League. Playing against Club America, Connection was defeated 2-0, before the team secured a win 4-2 over FC Orsomarso. Benjamin, Williams, Jerrel Brittlo and Silvio were on target.
W Connection also won 5-0 win over Deportivo Cordoba with goals by the captain Jones, Da Silva, Benjamin, Kurt Frederick and Andrei Pacheco. In its final training match against FC Florida, on Sunday, W Connection was defeated 2-1 with the lone goal scored by Mekeil Williams.
The team will fly directly from Cali, Colombia to Panama, today.
