To some of us who have passed along and seen bunting presenting a version of the colours and design of the national flag of T&T it seems as if this may be a contravention of the protocol governing the display of our flag. We are concerned that this type of bunting is inappropriate because, for example, the horizontal placement of the black and white strip is the incorrect position. One should adhere to the legally accepted diagonal positioning of the black and white strip across the red background.
While the use of the national colours is desirable to commemorate nationhood and celebrate national festivals, the design of the flag should not be tampered with in any way. In the light of the above, please consider carefully the design of bunting being used to decorate buildings and other areas for Independence celebrations. It would be unsatisfactory and undesirable for the practice to become widespread of displaying the national flag in a slipshod and whimsical manner.
