To some of us who have passed along and seen bunting pre­sent­ing a ver­sion of the colours and de­sign of the na­tion­al flag of T&T it seems as if this may be a con­tra­ven­tion of the pro­to­col gov­ern­ing the dis­play of our flag. We are con­cerned that this type of bunting is in­ap­pro­pri­ate be­cause, for ex­am­ple, the hor­i­zon­tal place­ment of the black and white strip is the in­cor­rect po­si­tion. One should ad­here to the legal­ly ac­cept­ed di­ag­o­nal po­si­tion­ing of the black and white strip across the red back­ground.

While the use of the na­tion­al colours is de­sir­able to com­mem­o­rate na­tion­hood and cel­e­brate na­tion­al fes­ti­vals, the de­sign of the flag should not be tam­pered with in any way. In the light of the above, please con­sid­er care­ful­ly the de­sign of bunting be­ing used to dec­o­rate build­ings and oth­er ar­eas for In­de­pen­dence cel­e­bra­tions. It would be un­sat­is­fac­to­ry and un­de­sir­able for the prac­tice to be­come wide­spread of dis­play­ing the na­tion­al flag in a slip­shod and whim­si­cal man­ner.
