Trinidad and Tobago's Consul General in New York, Rudrawatee Nan Ramgoolam was recently honoured with a Community Leadership Award at the Salute to Excellence gala from Suffolk Community College. The award was given in recognition of Ramgoolam's work with training opportunities while Minister of Public Administration.
Ramgoolam visited the Suffolk Community College's workforce development technology centre in August 2010 with a delegation from Trinidad and Tobago and initiated discussions on adopting the model for our application. In October 2011, Ramgoolam addressed the first manufacturing summit and symposium at Suffolk Community College at which she asked the regional business community to consider opportunities for investment in Trinidad and Tobago. Accompanying her were representatives of the Trinidad and Tobago Business Association in New York and Dolly Williams (construction contractor).
An aggressive communications and outreach programme was instituted resulting in a wider reach because of increased utilisation of social and traditional media. The accessibility of the Consul General also improved significantly with key relationships being developed with state government bodies and key members of the community.
