AKIMBO has partnered with kweliTV to present Movie Night Sundays, a monthly film screening series.
The launch of Movie Night Sundays will be held on June 16th at 6.30 pm at AKIMBO, 56 Saddle Road, Maraval, Port-ofSpain. The monthly film screenings will showcase kweliTV’s catalogue of award winning films every other Sunday each month.
AKIMBO, a known creative event space, excitedly share with Trinidad and Tobago’s local film enthusiasts the Movie Night Sundays film screening series as it offers them the opportunity to see forms of expressions in film from around the world and the African diaspora, in a unique and intimate setting. It also allows for kweliTV’s global filmmakers to have their work viewed by film enthusiasts outside of the more established film festivals.
The evening’s launch plans to feature 1 short film ‘Bittersweet’ by Brianna Abdullah and one local feature length film ‘Between Friends’ by Omari Jackson.
Bittersweet tells the story of Aaron, a young college freshman who just experienced a bad breakup. Eager to hop back into the dating world, Aaron turns to online dating in hopes of meeting “the one”. Throughout his journey to find true love, he comes into a few peculiar young women that discourage him from wanting to pursue Internet dating any further. Follow Aaron’s journey in this short romantic comedy to see where his heart leads him.
Between Friends, set in Trinidad and Tobago, is a film that presents an anthology of intersecting stories and characters who are all connected to one another in some way. The storyline, focused on two generations of contemporary middle-class Trinidadians, gradually exposes the hopes, secrets, lies and betrayals in the lives of the various characters. For some, this is a reality check, for others a devastating new reality.
Tickets for Movie Night Sundays are available online on Eventbrite. Contribution is $40.
Ticket holders have the chance to win great prizes via online competition and door prizes.
Movie Night Sundays is supported by La Vapeur Estate, Gourmet Pop and Aunty M’s Ponche de Crème to which they have been instrumental in assisting to make this event a possibility and supporting the creative industry and all forms of creative expression.
