ACS transport talks in PoS tomorrow

The XXII Meet­ing of the Spe­cial Com­mit­tee on Trans­port of the As­so­ci­a­tion of Caribbean States will take place to­mor­row.The meet­ing, to be held at the ACS Sec­re­tari­at, Port-of-Spain, fol­lows on from the man­date is­sued to the ACS Di­rec­torate of Trans­port at this year's Sum­mit of Heads of State host­ed in P�tion Ville, Re­pub­lic of Haiti.An­dreas R Talea, gen­er­al man­ag­er of the Suri­name Port Man­age­ment Com­pa­ny, rep­re­sent­ing Suri­name, will serve as chair to this week's meet­ing.

Min­is­ter of Trans­port Stephen Cadiz is ex­pect­ed to be among those in at­ten­dance. Cadiz, who will de­liv­er an open­ing ad­dress, will be ac­com­pa­nied by his ad­vi­sor, Aman­da Paul.

Co-or­di­na­tor for Latin Amer­i­ca and the Caribbean Min­istry of Trans­port for Cu­ba, En­gi­neer Pe­dro Su�rez is an­oth­er no­table fig­ure in the list of con­firmed at­ten­dees. Su�rez is sched­uled to give a pre­sen­ta­tion on the work of the Spe­cial Com­mit­tee un­der Cu­ba's chair­man­ship for the pe­ri­od 2012, fo­cus­ing pri­mar­i­ly on the project Maps of Mar­itime Routes in the Greater Caribbean.

Ac­cord­ing to the ACS Di­rec­tor of Trans­port, George Nichol­son, the meet­ing will seek to pro­vide an up­date on cur­rent progress, as it re­lates to the di­rec­tive put for­ward at the V Sum­mit, and ad­di­tion­al­ly fa­cil­i­tate dis­cus­sion be­tween ACS mem­ber states and re­gion­al or­gan­i­sa­tions in­volved in the field of trans­port with­in the greater Caribbean re­gion.
