MyBIGTV.com is shaking up T&T's TV landscape with a new over-the-top offering–featuring live TV, movies, sports and news programming.

The free service allows consumers to watch live TV on internet-connected devices, such as smartphones, tablets, computers and game consoles, as well as TV sets through devices such as Chromecast. And in a departure from the way cable bundles are typically sold–with a cable box or satellite TV antenna, and some sort of commitment–this service requires no hardware and no commitment.

"Basically, all you need is a good internet connection," says creator Jeff Belton.

During the period 1993-1999, Belton learnt to master search engine techniques. He later turned that knowledge into an automated affiliate system, helping what we all know today as Match.com grow its network by driving people to the site using key word optimisation.

"Using that same concept, I created AdvideoTISE, a video directory where local businesses could host long play advertisements and consumers could find them based on specific areas such as 'best places for fish' or 'where to eat in Port of Spain'. We later found that another opportunity was available for consumers looking for entertainment and that's how MyBIGTV was born," he said.

The website itself is not based on an algorithm and does not tell you what your friends are watching. Instead all content on MyBIGTV is curated using metadata, keywords and a description that allows search engines to serve relevant content to online users. According to Belton, the categorisation, channelisation and aggregation system facilitates easy discovery of free premium content.

"In addition to TV shows, movies, music, sports and news programming, MyBIGTV also features content from the major online schools and universities, and unlike cable, which has a schedule and tells you when you can look at what, MyBIGTV.COM allows you to look any show at any time," he said.

Belton graduated with a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Food Science and Management from the Pratt Institute School of Liberal Arts and Science, Brooklyn New York. He later started a hobby that would result in him creating a system that helped matched thousands of people with their soulmate. Today, he is results oriented and is focused on new business development.
