This country has moved up three notches from 70 to 67 in the World Economic Forum's (WEF) 2016 Global Information and Technology Report.
The report, one of the most comprehensive and authoritative assessments of the impact of ICT on the competitiveness of nations, was released on Thursday even at the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business (ALJGSB), Mount Hope. It shows that in the ranking of 143 countries T&T had a slight improvement in its overall score, up to 4.1 from 4.0, with its best showing in technology readiness.
Weaker usage and impact sub-indices suggests that the country is providing the infrastructure, making it affordable and has the skill level necessary but is not getting the level of usage, particularly at the level of businesses and government. As a result, T&T is unable to fully deploy ICT to enhance its social and economic standing, the report said.
The findings of this year's report, themed The Role of Digital Technology in Innovation, were released by Dr Balraj Kistow, lecturer and programme director at ALJGSB.
Communications and Public Administration Minister Maxie Cuffie gave the keynote address, which was followed by a panel discussion.
