Artificial Technology will take over the world, but policymakers have make sure that there are proper ethical guidelines in place to regulate its usage.
This was the call made by Carl Whyte, president of the US-based company Gwava group at day 2 of the CANTO Annual General meeting at the Hyatt Regency on Tuesday.
"I want us to explore how this technology is evolving from just an observatory to something that is evolving to something that is more proactive and intelligent. The AI analytics revolution is a game changer " said Whyte, who noted that it offered great potential for data collection and processing.
However, he added, it also would raise significant ethical questions.
"We want to know that we are safe, and that big brother is not watching all the time," said Whyte who referenced the phrase popularised by comic book superhero Spiderman, "with great power comes great responsibility."
"With this advent of AI it raises important ethical considerations around privacy and transparency," said Whyte who called for proper regulations for use of AI by businesses and governments alike.
He noted that there has been progress in the development of regulations internationally for use of AI, but also stressed that while utilising this technology we should not leave decision making up to algorithms.
"In order for AI to accomplish their mission, humans must remain in the loop," said Whyte, "I am that human when it comes to surveillance."
"Despite the AI's capability, human beings must be kept in the loop and ensure that the final decision is made by us," he said.
