The University of the West Indies's (UWI) Caribbean Interpreting & Translation Bureau (CITB) has expanded its support to the business community with the launch of translation services to the Caribbean/Latin American Business Office (CLABO).
On July 17, CITB and CLABO signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that identifies CITB as the preferred provider of business language services in interpreting and translation for CLABO. Launched in July 2008, the CITB was established by the UWI to exploit opportunities for the provision of quality translation services as well as provide an incubator service for proficient undergraduate linguists from the degree programmes, or recently qualified interpreters from the post-graduate diploma in interpreting.
Chaired by Kenneth Valley, former government minister, CLABO seeks to build bridges between the Caribbean and Latin America by facilitating trade, finance and investment, tourism and language services. Clement Sankat, UWI's pro-vice chancellor, said in a statement that the collaboration will benefit private sector growth and the national and regional development agenda.
