The T&T Postal Corporation (TTPost) launched the upgrade of its Billpay service.
Colin Mars Vickerie, chief executive officer, Roraima Financial Services (RFS), said the TTPost Billpay upgrade is at its early stages.
RFS has developed a Web-based money remittance service that caters to African and Caribbean citizens living in North America and Europe. "Today, we have processed in what we still consider as the early stage of the bill pay upgrade well over 170,000 transactions. I think the principals drew close to $60 million, and I am certain this is just the beginning," Vickerie said. Speaking at yesterday's launch of the upgraded service at the Carlton Savannah hotel, St Ann's, Vickerie said the upgrade will bring greater customer satisfaction. "The customer will now have the opportunity with the new bill upgrade service to enjoy modern efficiency and a choice as to where and when they can pay their bills and not have any real defaults. "The customer can now pay at the post office nearby and be assured within minutes and a 24-hour period of time, based on the vendor, that information will be updated correctly, properly and prevent any pending action," Vickerie said. Speaking with reporters after the launch, Averline Scott, general manager, sales and marketing, said she is confident the upgrade would be effective and there will be fewer complaints.
"We are going to merge this new system with an organisation-wide integration. This means that the system would be linked with all other operations throughout the network. "We have a one-only line for the Billpay service right now, and it is all linked to the roll out. By the end of January 2010, we would have that full integration, where the customer would be able to carry out all of the core services at any one of the counters," Scott said. Referring to TTPost's readiness as an agent for the payment of property tax on behalf of government, Scott said TTPost is prepared. "We have been working very closely with them, (Roraima) in terms of the development of our platform. There's ongoing dialogue between the parties, and we are going to be ready when it comes to members of the public paying property tax in 2010," Scott said.
TTPost's finances
Managing director Sheldon Cyrus said TTPost has never appeared before any of the parliamentary committees such as the Joint Select Committee (JSC) and the Public Accounts Enterprises Committee (PAEC). Cyrus said TTPost has yet to submit outstanding financial records. "We have two financial statements outstanding. We are audited by the Auditor General. What we did, since the Auditor General would not be in a position to do all the audits that are required to be done, we use private auditors to audit our books. By the end of this year, we would be fully up-to-date with all our audits. We have a couple that are being done at the same time," Cyrus said. He said non-submission of these financial records is justifiable. "A number of State agencies are in this position, too. We have not been summoned by any committee. We are on top of things," Cyrus said.
