Fiesta Plaza pays tribute to vintage kaiso

For the fourth year, Fi­es­ta Plaza, un­der the pa­tron­age of the Min­istry of Arts and Mul­ti­cul­tur­al­ism, is con­tin­u­ing its tra­di­tion of ho­n­our­ing the stal­warts of the ca­lyp­so world. Three ex­cit­ing shows will take place on Feb­ru­ary 13, 15 and 17 at the Fi­es­ta Plaza at Movi­eTowne, Port-of-Spain. This year, the tril­o­gy be­gins with a trib­ute con­cert to Lord Nel­son, be­ing held on Feb­ru­ary 13 at 8.30 pm. The leg­endary ca­lyp­son­ian will be per­form­ing some of his great­est hits, which in­clude Meh Lover and Dis­co Dad­dy. Al­so on the cast will be Black Stal­in and Min­is­ter of Arts and Mul­ti­cul­tur­al­ism, Win­ston "Gyp­sy" Pe­ters. On Feb­ru­ary 15 the plaza will again heat up with a mu­si­cal jour­ney of the Road March­es of yes­ter­year. These will be ren­dered by many of our ca­lyp­so greats like the Mighty Spar­row, Su­perBlue, Ker­nal Roberts, Ca­lyp­so Rose and the Lord Re­la­tor. From Net­ty Net­ty to Get Some­thing and Wave, pa­trons will have a chance to rem­i­nisce and en­joy these mu­si­cal gems.

Both shows cost $200. The cli­max of this Car­ni­val ex­trav­a­gan­za-Vin­ti-val-will be the Car­ni­val Vil­lage and af­ter par­ty. Car­ni­val Fri­day will come alive with the amaz­ing mas de­signs cre­at­ed by the leg­endary Pe­ter Min­shall and the Callaloo Com­pa­ny. This will be the on­ly op­por­tu­ni­ty to see and en­joy many of the grand cos­tumes from this world renowned artist. The event will al­so fea­ture the orig­i­nal char­ac­ters and tra­di­tions of long­time Car­ni­val, in­clud­ing a mu­si­cal feast of tas­sa, steel­pan, rhythm sec­tion and end­ing with a "fam­i­ly-ori­ent­ed" af­ter-par­ty fea­tur­ing Im­ij and Co. Adults pay $75 and chil­dren un­der 12 years pay $25.
