It appears that the questionable omission of the Exodus Steel Orchestra from the National Panorama Finals has not affected the spirits of its players. My route from work to home allows me to pass by several steelbands in the eastern area, three of which are in the finals.I was indeed touched to see the pride of the east, Exodus, still assiduously rehearsing. Those of us who are familiar with steelband history know very well that when a band does not make it to the finals, its yard becomes like a veritable ghost town. Not Exodus, as it appears it is really serious about putting "Pan in D Mas." As I was told, the players are learning songs to play on the road for J'Ouvert and Carnival Tuesday.
In my opinion only a great steelband that has a dynamic management team and committed players could achieve a feat like that. I am a pan lover and over the years the contribution that the Exodus steelband has made to pan is noteworthy. As simple as the way the band is presented at all times at any competition or function is always professional. As a matter of fact, it is the epitome of professionalism in a world tainted with hooliganism. I will miss the sight of those roofless pan racks, the ability to see every player, the music and, above all, the presence/threat that Exodus brings to a competition.
