Within recent times there have been a bit of hullabaloo about whether the State should resume hangings or not. For a country that has been trying for quite some time to foist Christianity as our "national" religion, the answer should be quite clear: an eye for an eye. As far as I am concerned, let the offenders swing. Quickly. There must be some redress for the families of the victims.
As an alternative, what the State could do is compile a list of the names, contact numbers, and addresses of all those not in favour of the death penalty. Then assign a convicted death row inmate to each person on that list, and have that person stand full costs for him as relates to food, clothing, medicals, supervision etc.
If for whatever reason the inmate is released, his "guardian" should then be required to provide employment for him. Taxpayers should not be strained in order to meet these costs. If this is implemented we'll then see how much these people are against the death penalty. What does the good book say? Hang 'em high!
