I am very per­plexed at the po­si­tion tak­en by the PP Gov­ern­ment that the guar­an­tee to Cli­co in­vestors giv­en by the Cen­tral Bank and the PNM Gov­ern­ment in Feb­ru­ary 2009 was not le­gal. It is al­leged that there are some mem­bers of the then Op­po­si­tion who have in­vest­ments in Cli­co and would have re­ceived in­di­vid­ual copies of the guar­an­tee by post.

In any case, it was pub­lic knowl­edge. Should not the then Op­po­si­tion have called on the Gov­ern­ment to re­fute it and so would have done its du­ty in pro­tect­ing or alert­ing mem­bers of the pub­lic who had in­vest­ed in Cli­co? Even Win­ston Dook­er­an should have made his voice heard about the guar­an­tee's au­then­tic­i­ty. I think the ne­glect of du­ty (or is it ig­no­rance?) by the then Op­po­si­tion is an abom­inable shame. It should make a pub­lic apol­o­gy.
