The St Augustine Chamber Orchestra continues quietly making history, as for the first time, an international concert violinist will perform in T&T with the T&T Youth Philharmonic.
The concerts, entitled An Evening with Andrew Sords, are scheduled for March 21 at 7.30 pm, and March 22 at 5.30 pm at Queen's Hall, Port-of-Spain. Admission is $200.
Born in Newark, Delaware, Sords began piano lessons at the age of five, followed shortly by violin studies. He studied at The Cleveland Institute of Music and Southern Methodist University, a release from the organisers said.
Sords, 30, has received critical acclaim for his performances and has appeared as a soloist with over 200 orchestras across four continents. A regular soloist in the Caribbean, he has performed in Anguilla, Grand Cayman, St Maarten and in Puerto Rico with a 2014 debut in the US Virgin Islands.
Internationally, Sords has debuted with orchestras in Poland, the Netherlands, England and Australia.
In the first half of the concert Sords has agreed to perform the first movement of Vivaldi's The Four Seasons–Spring with TTYP's children orchestra, followed by the major work, Bruch Violin Concerto in G minor, Op 26 by German romantic composer Max Bruch (1838-1920). In the second half, Sords will also perform some of his favourite show pieces.
The St Augustine Chamber Orchestra, registered and governing body for the T&T Youth Philharmonic, operates year-round school and community programmes, which include St George's College, Barataria, Bishop Anstey High School East/Trinity College East, Trincity, the University School, St Augustine, the Arima West Government Primary School and most recently Atwell's Primary School in Tacarigua.
Patrons will be able to buy signed copies of one of Sords' CDs at the concerts.
