Youth Philharmonic to perform with violinist Sords

The St Au­gus­tine Cham­ber Or­ches­tra con­tin­ues qui­et­ly mak­ing his­to­ry, as for the first time, an in­ter­na­tion­al con­cert vi­o­lin­ist will per­form in T&T with the T&T Youth Phil­har­mon­ic.

The con­certs, en­ti­tled An Evening with An­drew Sor­ds, are sched­uled for March 21 at 7.30 pm, and March 22 at 5.30 pm at Queen's Hall, Port-of-Spain. Ad­mis­sion is $200.

Born in Newark, Delaware, Sor­ds be­gan pi­ano lessons at the age of five, fol­lowed short­ly by vi­o­lin stud­ies. He stud­ied at The Cleve­land In­sti­tute of Mu­sic and South­ern Methodist Uni­ver­si­ty, a re­lease from the or­gan­is­ers said.

Sor­ds, 30, has re­ceived crit­i­cal ac­claim for his per­for­mances and has ap­peared as a soloist with over 200 or­ches­tras across four con­ti­nents. A reg­u­lar soloist in the Caribbean, he has per­formed in An­guil­la, Grand Cay­man, St Maarten and in Puer­to Ri­co with a 2014 de­but in the US Vir­gin Is­lands.

In­ter­na­tion­al­ly, Sor­ds has de­buted with or­ches­tras in Poland, the Nether­lands, Eng­land and Aus­tralia.

In the first half of the con­cert Sor­ds has agreed to per­form the first move­ment of Vi­val­di's The Four Sea­sons–Spring with TTYP's chil­dren or­ches­tra, fol­lowed by the ma­jor work, Bruch Vi­o­lin Con­cer­to in G mi­nor, Op 26 by Ger­man ro­man­tic com­pos­er Max Bruch (1838-1920). In the sec­ond half, Sor­ds will al­so per­form some of his favourite show pieces.

The St Au­gus­tine Cham­ber Or­ches­tra, reg­is­tered and gov­ern­ing body for the T&T Youth Phil­har­mon­ic, op­er­ates year-round school and com­mu­ni­ty pro­grammes, which in­clude St George's Col­lege, Barataria, Bish­op Anstey High School East/Trin­i­ty Col­lege East, Trinci­ty, the Uni­ver­si­ty School, St Au­gus­tine, the Ari­ma West Gov­ern­ment Pri­ma­ry School and most re­cent­ly Atwell's Pri­ma­ry School in Tacarigua.

Pa­trons will be able to buy signed copies of one of Sor­ds' CDs at the con­certs.
