One of the country's most renowned guitarists, Michael Boothman, will combine with the fast rising Dean Williams for a one-night-only performance tomorrow evening, titled 2 Guitars, at Kaiso Blues Caf on Woodford Street, Newtown.
Both men are awesome in their skills on the guitar and a superb show is expected as the two guitarists searching for common ground as they explore their respective songbooks, and fuse their individual talents and experience to create the new.
Boothman has a storied career as a musician in Trinidad, the Caribbean and internationally. Beginning as a teenager in the 1960s with his band Rockafellas, then moving onto the Family Band, Boothman was evolving the sound and songs in the local music industry before that was the buzz word of modern political administrations. Pioneering his kysofusion brand of music, and moving Caribbean jazz on to the global stage, Boothman is reconnecting with his fans and new audiences in 2016.
Back in 1977, he released his classic album Heaven on the Tabu label. Since that time, Boothman has been a regular on the Caribbean jazz festival circuit trailblazing and performing at almost every festival from Jamaica to St Lucia, to Anguilla and Barbados and Tobago. At present, he performs weekly at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Port-of-Spain.
Williams, a musician a generation after Boothman, seizes the mantle and continues into the new century as a composer and performer for a variety of artistes in pop, rock, reggae, jazz, soca and calypso. While honing his onstage skill, he started a studio recording career which to date has covered hundreds of tracks with many artistes including those of soca, rapso, world beat, pop and reggae also adding gospel to his bag most recently, together with quite a few television and radio jingles.
These experiences with artistes foreign and local alike encouraged Williams to produce songs alongside local producers and in time he went on to record acts on his own. Music has taken him on tour all through most of the Americas, Europe and parts of Asia. Over the years, though performing heavily, he has continuously written his own compositions either on the guitar or keyboard.
Backed by Clint DeCoteau (bass); Simon Mendoza (keyboards); and, Jonathan Hensley (drums), Williams and Boothman will merge jazz, blues, calypso, kysofusion, Caribbean jazz, R&B and soul in 2 Guitars, one night only.
