A familiar face to many Carnival lovers in T&T and throughout the Caribbean, Achsah Henry is the definition of a Carnival Queen. Henry was raised in the belly of Trinidad Carnival culture, growing up in D Yard, surrounded by the likes of 3canal, Machel Montano, Destra Garcia and Bunji Garlin. At three years old, she took the road by storm for the first time, playing mas in a custom Carnival costume with Peter Minshall alongside her mother and aunts.

Kristian De Silva
Calypsonians are traditionally known for being prolific and firm in their delivery. But Hammond “Slick” Bruce believes comedy is the vehicle that will make his messaging stand out in every competition that he is in. A member of Next Level Devils during a street performance.
High-pitched screams and wails, spitting fire, dancing and contorting to the beat of the fired steel drum; carrying pitchforks, blowing whistles and of course, glistening radiant blue in the night sky—the blue devils have come to town!

Following the tragic death of a Japanese tourist Asami Nagakiya after Trinidad Carnival 2016, along with the subsequent hurtful and sexist comments made by the then mayor about the woman’s attire, a national dialogue was sparked on the issue of gender-based violence in T&T. Every Carnival, women are subjected to the constant flow of inane commentary and advances of men, which, when met with rejection, foster defensiveness or backlash.

Beautiful ladies shine in the latest outfits for Carnival 2024, from short to long dresses in all colours and styles, rompers, short pants, bikini tops and fashionable skirts. Completing their ensemble were various trendy shoes, make-up and hairstyles. Prestige Allure, hosted by Presentation College San Fernando on January 21 at Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba, was the event that brought out this exquisite bunch of ladies. Performing that night were Nailah Blackman and Patrice Roberts, known for their flair and style on stage. Other performers included Raymond Ramnarine and Dil-E-Nadan, Problem Child, Skinny Fabulous and Mical Teja, and Kes.
