Hip-Hop Hall of Fame inductee Naughty by Nature is billed to perform at Pier 1, Chaguaramas, on October 24, for Generation of Soul 3, an old school party series that combines the music of top local DJs with local and international live acts. Previous editions of Generation of Soul saw acts such as Slick Rick, Dougie Fresh and Boyz II Men performing before hundreds of patrons. Event producer ABC Productions has also presented the Temptations and other international acts in concert.?Joining the internationally acclaimed rap trio on stage is fellow hip-hop act Lisa Lisa, as well as veteran Jamaican dancehall act Flourgon and local reggae singer Jah Melody.
Generation of Soul 3 will also pay tribute to ten old school DJs that have, over the years, catered to fans of authentic hip-hop dancing. The line-up of DJs being honoured includes CIN, Kabuki, Dream Team, Ishmael, Howie T, Professionals, Richard Simply Smooth, Franco and Jus Jase. Currently in the midst of a successful world tour, Naughty by Nature is also about to release its reunion CD collection entitled Anthem Inc. The Grammy Award winning trio from New Jersey, that consists of Treach, Vin Rock and DJ Kay Gee, debuted in 1991 with the single OPP, which instantly became a hip-hop anthem worldwide. As if to prove to critics the trio was not a one-hit wonder, Naughty by Nature followed-up their smash debut with other chart-topping singles, such as Everything's Gonna Be Alright, Uptown Anthem, Hip Hop Hooray, Feel Me Flow and Jamboree. The group was inducted into the Hip-Hop Hall of Fame last year.
Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam was one of the most musically diverse and successful recording acts of the 1980's selling over one million copies of their debut single–I Wonder if I Take You Home. With Lisa Lisa in the lead, the group earned five gold singles and two platinum albums with hits like All Cried Out, Head to Toe, Lost in Emotion and Let The Beat Hit Them. Flourgon is the person responsible for nurturing Buju Banton and Terry Ganzie in the early days of their respective careers, back when he worked with various sound systems in Jamaica. As an artiste, he released hit singles, How You So Hot with Brian and Tony Gold; Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, with Thriller; Go Sit Down with Clement Irie; Jungle Lover and Madly In Love, with Sanchez and Jump And Spread Out and Turn And Stab, with Daddy Lizard.
