Jazz takes on Martiniquan twist

The 2010 Caribbean Jazz Fu­sion Con­cert, the on­ly re­gion­al Jazz Con­cert and work­shop spot­light­ing Caribbean pro­fes­sion­al mu­si­cians and in­dus­try as­so­ciates in the re­gion, takes place on No­vem­ber 28, at the Hy­att Re­gency, Wright­son Road, Port-of-Spain, at 7 pm. Cre­at­ed by Caribbean mu­si­cal am­bas­sador Michael Booth­man, the 2010 Caribbean Jazz Fu­sion Con­cert and Mu­sic Work­shop will fea­ture per­for­mances by Booth­man's Kyso­Fu­sion, and be­guine jazz band Makadanm.

The work­shop com­po­nent pro­vides a unique op­por­tu­ni­ty for ac­com­plished and renowned Caribbean mu­si­cians to show­case their of­fer­ings and ex­pand their mu­si­cal and cul­tur­al reach in the re­gion and glob­al­ly. This mu­sic–La Be­guine Jazz–is deeply root­ed in Mar­tini­quan tra­di­tions and cul­ture and pro­vides a gate­way for, and a means of bet­ter un­der­stand­ing the peo­ple of Mar­tinique.

Tick­ets for the Caribbean Jazz Con­cert are avail­able from Cros­by's Records, St James, at a cost of $400 for sin­gle tick­ets, and $700 per cou­ple. All tick­et hold­ers will re­ceive a copy of the new Michael Booth­man's Kaiso­Fu­sion CD–Keep­ing it Fresh. In oth­er jazz news, as a re­sult of the dev­as­ta­tion that St Lu­cia is cur­rent­ly fac­ing brought on by Hur­ri­cane Tomas, as well as Booth­man's close ties and his­to­ry with the St Lu­cia Jazz Fes­ti­val, part of the pro­ceeds will be do­nat­ed to the St Lu­cia re­cov­ery ef­fort.

In­tro­duc­ing the 2011 Caribbean Jazz, Food and Wine/Spir­its Fes­ti­val. The 2010 Caribbean Jazz Fu­sion Con­cert is the pre­cur­sor and launch pad for the 2011 Caribbean Jazz, Food and Wine/Spir­its Fes­ti­val, sched­uled for the first quar­ter of 2011.

This fes­ti­val will be the first of its kind, com­bin­ing all three cul­tur­al as­pects in one event, with par­tic­i­pa­tion from the tal­ent­ed and cre­ative Caribbean artistes in all the ma­jor en­ter­tain­ment and pro­duc­tion in­dus­tries.

On Jan­u­ary 13, this year, a teas­er event was held in Bar­ba­dos and was an im­me­di­ate suc­cess.�Part of the pro­ceeds of this event was do­nat­ed to the very ap­pre­cia­tive St Patrick's Ro­man Catholic com­mu­ni­ty.
