Ministry hosts festival for children

Hun­dreds of chil­dren turned out for the Christ­mas Sports Fes­ti­val for un­der­priv­i­leged chil­dren on De­cem­ber 5, host­ed by the Min­istry of Sport and Youth Af­fairs un­der the aus­pices of Ruth Marchan, as­sis­tant di­rec­tor of Phys­i­cal Ed­u­ca­tion and Sport.

The event was held at the El Do­ra­do Youth De­vel­op­ment Ap­pren­tice­ship Cen­tre last Sun­day. The chil­dren were treat­ed to nov­el­ty events, boun­cy cas­tles, and a va­ri­ety of fun-filled ac­tiv­i­ties. There was even an im­pres­sive Michael Jack­son im­per­son­ation by Ryan Au­gus­tine.

There were gifts for every­one, even those who did not par­tic­i­pate in the events. Jen­nifer Jones, Per­ma­nent Sec­re­tary in the Min­istry of Sport and Youth Af­fairs, de­liv­ered the open­ing re­marks, while Mark Mun­gal, pres­i­dent of the Trinidad and To­ba­go Al­liance for Sport and Phys­i­cal Ed­u­ca­tion (TTASPE), gave the wel­come ad­dress.
