Once again the residents of Pearl Gardens in Diego Martin have made senior citizens happy for the Christmas season. Last Sunday eight homes that cater to the needs of some of the nation's senior citizens were given their annual extra-special treatment by the Pearl Gardens residents. This year marked the 17th year that the luncheon has been staged. Senior citizens from Nazereth House, Audrey Mollineau Halfway House for Women, Tritcher Home, Finbar Ryan Home, St Andrews Home, Jenny Poole, Providence Home, and Our Lady of Lourdes were among those that attended, along with caregivers.
Around 10 am the festivities at Green Meadows in Santa Cruz started with DJ music, food and drinks. And although it had rained earlier that morning, by then the deluge had ceased and the sun was out. Well known local calypsonian Kenny G took the spotlight shortly after noon. It wasn't long before one woman began dancing and did not sit down until the end of Kenny's set.
Parang band Carib Santa Rosa, who played at the function last year, were invited again, and they did not disappoint. The event became even more interesting when Santa Claus, bearing gifts, made a grand entrance on a Fire Services vehicle.
