Gospel singer packs a big message
Koen Duncan
He is small in stature with an innocent smile (once you can get it out of him), but don’t be fooled. Koen Duncan is anything but a walk-over. A man with a mission, he is certainly a force to be reckoned with. Duncan is a music minister who expresses his belief in God without apology. He does not assume a passive approach to ministry, but rather takes the offensive in the battle to which he has committed himself. His first album—Bring Down—features tracks like Bring Down, You Will Pay, Real Fight and Sins No More. The musical ministry of Duncan has found widespread appeal with the young. He has been requested to be a part of every major youth conference held in T&T, from the TD Jakes Youth Rally to the Youth Summit in October 2007 by Dr Myles Munroe.
Also, over the last couple of years, he has been involved in the Billy Graham Ministries in Trinidad. He has even partnered with Xtreme Impact, a youth ministry based in Jamaica that has taken him to schools and communities throughout Jamaica and his homeland. Duncan’s drive for excellence has seen him evolve into the versatile artiste he is today. From being a young, award-winning saxophonist at Pleasantville Senior Comprehensive School, he went on to become the youngest member of the widely renowned gospel group, Broadway Boys International, where he was the vocalist behind one of the group’s smash hit, Whole Armour, before launching his solo career.
After Duncan released his first solo album in 2005, he won four awards—Best New Artiste, Album of the Year, Dancehall Album of the Year and Song of the Year—in the Urban Gospel Alliance Awards, held in Texas in 2006. He recently released his second album in May 2009—Shine High—which includes the popular hits Sprinkle, A Miracle and Weakness and the title track. Duncan is also a music producer and has recently opened his own recording studio, through which he is gaining recognition for his work with local and foreign artistes. He will celebrate ten years of ministry with a concert entitled Exodus, on November 11, at Naparima Bowl, San Fernando; and will be accompanied by Birthright. Showtime is 7 pm.
