?New CD releases for Christmas and Carnival 2010 are coming off the press faster than you can blink. From the Hitt Lab and the pen of talented songwriter Edward Duggins come two songs, How You Feel and Ballad of the Dust. How You Feel is sung by Shac de Burg and veteran Natalie Yorke. What a great combination. How You Feel is an effective pick-me-up for these depressing times, it's truly inspirational. What stands out on this CD is the majestic drumming, which is done tastefully and with precision. This groovy soca item, which also has an instrumental version, is well-produced and musically entertaining. Music is done by Martin "Mice" Raymond, Shac De Burg and Andrew Phillip.
Ballad of the Dust – A gem of a song
This song is a big song and has the Dimanche Gras Calypso Monarch quality. I like the presentation of the song, performed by Andrew Phillip, with chorus by Natalie Yorke, Derrick Seales and Wendell Manwarren. Songwriter Edward Duggins should feel proud about Ballad of the Dust, which is a well-constructed gem. It is a beautiful idea, as he seeks to forge links between the African Sahara and the Caribbean diaspora. Everything about this song is well done–the music, as well as the voice inserts of Nelson Mandela and Civil Rights activist Martin Luther King. Musicians Shac De Burg, Andrew Phillip and the famed bassist Albert Bushe are featured. Ballad of the Dust is truly a special song.
Parang Band by Derrick Seales
You can't keep a good man down, especially not Derrick Seales, lately know as Dr Seales. This tried and tested singer is back again to thrill you with a Christmas CD called Parang Band. I've heard songs about parang bands, the thieving one, the greedy one and the one that paranged the wrong house–but this song is different. It's rhythmic and in tune with the festive season. So what are you waiting for? Get out your bottle and spoon. Dr Seales will surely leave you panting with this new CD for 2K10, named Breathless. Heard a demo copy of the song by Backyard Studios, and, if deejays operate fairly, this should be a big one for 2010.
