Types of Exercise
You have two options, you can either go it alone or you can secure the services of a good personal trainer to help you reach your health and fitness goals. Let's assume that you have decided to go it alone. In structuring your own programme, you have got to strike a nice balance between aerobic activities (eg running, biking etc), strength training activities (eg weight training) and dynamic activities.
Aerobic training This is normally referred to as cardio training, because it has such a positive impact on your cardiovascular system. Examples are running, biking, swimming, etc. Aerobic training is the best type of training for keeping your heart, arteries and lungs strong, clean and healthy. It also helps you to burn body fat and is ideal for aiding in the relief of stress. It should be performed continuously for about 45 minutes, four times per week.
Strength Training–This is usually performed with barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, etc. Working out with weights has a direct effect on your muscular system and it gives you great body shape. Weight training also strengthens your joints, ligaments and tendons. In addition, it fights off the effects of osteoporosis and helps to increase your metabolism.
Dynamic Training– Disciplines like karate, kung fu, kick boxing, etc, offer a great combination of muscle toning, awesome cardio and flexibility. You should also attempt this on a weekly basis by cross training. Whatever your chosen discipline, exercise can give you a strong mind and a healthy body. Keep training.
