The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) is long over. All of the visitors from some 52 countries have come and gone, taking with them some treasured memories of T&T's warmth and generosity, culture and traditions. The spouses of the heads of the Commonwealth countries also had the good fortune to experience the exquisite fashion lines from nine of this country's top designers, during the Entrepreneurial Symposium, Fashion and Cultural Show hosted by Senator Hazel Manning at the Diplomatic Centre on November 28.
Models displaying an array of brightly coloured designs intended to make women feel good, from internationally renowned Heather Jones, a self taught designer, first commanded the runway. The equally gifted Meiling, who has maore than 30 years experience in the fashion world was next, with a collection of dresses, tops, pants and skirts crafted from some of the finest linens and other beautiful fabrics. Coming after these two stalwarts would have been difficult for any designer but Diane Hunt of Radical fame stood up to the test with carefree, comfortable and definitely Caribbean styles.
Anthony Reid inspired with a unique collection of men's wear, while fashion diva Claudia Pegus, a woman who has left her indelible mark in the local, regional and international scene, was equally impressive with a range of stunning ensembles. Bold, exotic prints from designer Peter Elias lit up the runway. Millhouse's clean, tailored and sophisticated lines had a strong impact on the audience. Unique, dynamic, rich lines, accessorised by huge bags, was the fashion statement The Cloth chose to make to the international guests. Bringing the curtain down with a wonderful range of hand-painted linens was the dynamic duo of Zaad and Eastman. At the end of the show, many of the spouses left with bags containing pieces from their favourite designer.
