?Coreysan's one-man con­cert on Wednes­day night at­tract­ed a gath­er­ing of mu­sic lovers with a taste for the ex­tra­or­di­nary, at Casa de Ibiza on Tra­garete Road in Wood­brook. His haunt­ing vo­cals and bass-dri­ven elec­tron­ic beats cre­at­ed a mys­ti­cal air at the cosy venue, as his lyrics spoke uni­ver­sal truths and mus­ings on life. Per­form­ing songs from his CDs Coreysan and Light and Shad­ow, as well as mu­sic from his up­com­ing al­bum, the mul­ti-tal­ent­ed mu­si­cian sang, played bass and lay­ered pre-record­ed beats from his lap­top.

He al­so played the theremin, an ear­ly elec­tron­ic in­stru­ment, all the while keep­ing up a friend­ly ban­ter with the au­di­ence. He ex­plained how the in­stru­ment, an unas­sum­ing look­ing black box, worked, say­ing it was made up of two AM ra­dios, with the two an­ten­nae con­trol­ling vol­ume and pitch. He waved his hands over it, seem­ing to mag­i­cal­ly draw out haunt­ing sounds. "Ba­si­cal­ly, you play noth­ing," he said with a laugh. His rapt au­di­ence took in songs like If Love Was a Se­cret, Ac­cess De­nied and Light and Shad­ow. (GM)
