At­tor­ney Daniel Khan was on fire at the pop­u­lar Sweet Lime Restau­rant in Wood­brook on the last Tues­day in Feb­ru­ary, as he suc­cess­ful­ly de­fend­ed his Backgam­mon throne, to be­come the first in­di­vid­ual to ever achieve the elu­sive back-to-back vic­to­ries.

Staged by the Trinidad Backgam­mon As­so­ci­a­tion, last month's tour­na­ment was spon­sored by East Lime Mem­bers' Club, based in San­gre Grande. Khan raised his game to a su­pe­ri­or lev­el as he faced off against his might­i­est op­po­nent, Jack "in the Box" Man­az­er. Speak­ing af­ter his achieve­ment, Khan said he loves this board game be­cause it com­bines the in­tel­lec­tu­al chal­lenge and strat­e­gy of chess, the log­i­cal think­ing of check­ers, and an ul­ti­mate el­e­ment of luck.

Backgam­mon is a game which has been around for thou­sands of years and is one that has stood the test of time. This month's tour­na­ment is sched­uled for March 30, on the hol­i­day, with the next edi­tion of Sweet Lime's month­ly Wine & Jazz evening booked for March 24.
