The many times Dominic Lau probably sang "How could he know this new dawn's light would change his life forever"–Metallica's Unforgiven 111 single, he had no idea he would one day be referring to himself. A simple phone call during a competition hosted by the Morning Zoo show on 95.1FM the Best Mix, landed him and a friend front-row seats at the a Metallica concert in Hipodromo La Rinconada in Caracas, Venezuela on March 12.
A big fan of rock music, Lau said it was the first time he had attended a Metallica concert, and described the experience as nothing short of amazing. He said he was caught off guard with the news that he had won the competition. "I was driving, listening to the radio. I heard my name but didn't even realise it was me. It wasn't until my phone started ringing off the hook that I realsied I had won," Lau said. According to the host of the Morning Zoo, Jean Ambrose, apart from the two VIP tickets to the show, air fare, hotel accommodation at a five star hotel, and ground transport were also part of Lau's winning package.
In addition, he said, Lau received a 32-inch plasma TV, pizza vouchers, jewelry, and several hampers. He said the competition was one of many hosted by the station. Ambrose, who also attended the concert, said although this was the sixth time he had the privilege of seeing Metallica in concert, there was something special about this show. And to the many callers who entered the competition but did not win, Ambrose advised that they do not despair. "We have a lot more coming up. I just can't spill the beans yet," he said.
