Make-up artist plays up looks with the perfect shade

Like a moth to a flame, so too are women drawn to make-up. And last Saturday, female shoppers at Trincity Mall were true to form when Revlon presented its newest products in its transfer-resistant ColorStay line.

Centrestage was Revlon's International make-up artist Jacqueline Hutchinson and two local beauty experts who showed off the line's Ultimate Liquid Lipstick, DoubleTwist Mascara and Mineral Mousse Makeup and Finishing Powder. The curious few also benefited from Hutchinson's 18-year experience in the make-up business with her tips on choosing the right products to enhance their beauty. "What most women want to know is, 'What is my foundation colour?'" Hutchinson said.

It is an area, she said, that most women need guidance with to find their perfect shade. "Most are attracted to the colours that look good on others and they want to put it on themselves, whereas it might not suit them." One of the first things that a woman should do is to find a foundation that looks perfect even before they start experimenting with colour. "I also tell people, 'Find your best feature and play it up.'" When it comes to problems like wrinkles and dark circles under the eyes, Hutchinson said it is best to keep the look simple. "Trying to cover up will just draw unwanted attention, especially if you're doing it wrong." Hutchinson, whose job takes her to Canada, Central America and the Caribbean as a product trainer, also cautioned women about wearing make-up that's too strong.

"Do not let your make-up walk into the room before you do," she advised. "Some women tend to put on so much of the wrong shade that you don't see their eyes or their lips, you just see eye shadow and lipstick." After sampling the products, the ColorStay Mineral Mousse Makeup became this writers' pick of the bunch. The foundation went on sheer and light and didn't immediately come off. Hutchinson said the product was doing just what it should. "A lot of women don't have time to be touching up their make-up during the day, so this make-up is perfect for them. When they put this on at six o'clock in the morning, it doesn't come off until they return home at night."

The make-up, she said, is also perfect for T&T's humid, dry weather because you can't sweat it off easily.
