The T&T Yatra Committee recently hosted its seventh annual Kali Yatra Festival which is becoming quite popular in T&T. The religious event began on September 1, 2013, with the intention of getting individuals to understand the Hindu goddess.
Kali Maa, or Mother Kali as she is known, is worshipped largely by devotees belonging to Shakti Temples, but over the years, the organisation has seen more of the mainstream Hindu organisations paying some attention to her.
This year’s Kali Yatra Festival started off at the main stage of the Divali Nagar with Kali Puja and was followed by a five-day Kali Yagna, on August 26 to 30. The Kali Yatra Festival ended on Independence Day with a street parade and Kali Visarjan (immersion) at Carli Bay in Couva.
