Students of Lady Hochoy Home in Penal were thrilled to receive a generous donation of educational materials from Digicel on March 29. The items, which ranged from pristine desks and chairs, to puppets, books, puzzles, and musical instruments, were declared to be valuable by principal Shereen Mohip. "The materials will go a long way towards helping the students to develop cognitive, social, language, and motor skills," Mohip said, and thanked Digicel for its consideration in finding and choosing her school to enrich with their donation.
"We were surprised and happy to have our resource base uplifted and we truly appreciate that they reached out and helped us." Mohip was presented with two signs to decorate the school's reading and music corners by Penny Gomes, Digicel communications manager, who articulated the delight the company took in supporting schools like the Lady Hochoy Home. "You're special to us at Digicel," she told the children, "and we wanted to do something special for you."
As they played with their new Elmo, Big Bird and Cookie Monster puppets, Gomez said, "We hope that you learn something from these materials, and we hope that you enjoy them as much as we've enjoyed giving them to you." From the looks on their faces, it was clear that the children were ecstatic to receive the new materials and would no doubt put them to good use.
