Members of the media are advised that The Cropper Foundation, supported by several international, regional and national partners, will be hosting a Regional Workshop for the Caribbean on Education for Sustainable Development entitled "Assessing progress and developing capacity in the Caribbean region in the context of the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD)." The workshop will be held on April 28-29, at the Cascadia Hotel, St Ann's. The event partners include The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), The University of the West Indies, The Ministry of Education in Trinidad and Tobago, The Delegation of the European Union to Trinidad and Tobago, The United Nations Environment Programme Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (UNEP ROLAC), bpTT, and the Caricom Secretariat. Dr Tim Gopeesingh, Minister of Education will deliver the feature address.
The workshop is being undertaken as a part of The Cropper Foundation's Programme for Environment and Resource Education (IERE Programme) and it seeks to provide targeted support to DESD-related initiatives within the Caribbean region. Participants will include ESD practitioners, researchers, university students, secondary school students, teachers, NGOs and intergovernmental organisations principally from around the Caribbean Region (Barbados, Belize, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, St Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago.) Selected experts from Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom will also attend. A total of one hundred and fifty people are expected at the event.
