Workshop puts Caribbean education on forefront

Mem­bers of the me­dia are ad­vised that The Crop­per Foun­da­tion, sup­port­ed by sev­er­al in­ter­na­tion­al, re­gion­al and na­tion­al part­ners, will be host­ing a Re­gion­al Work­shop for the Caribbean on Ed­u­ca­tion for Sus­tain­able De­vel­op­ment en­ti­tled "As­sess­ing progress and de­vel­op­ing ca­pac­i­ty in the Caribbean re­gion in the con­text of the Decade of Ed­u­ca­tion for Sus­tain­able De­vel­op­ment (DESD)." The work­shop will be held on April 28-29, at the Cas­ca­dia Ho­tel, St Ann's. The event part­ners in­clude The Unit­ed Na­tions Ed­u­ca­tion­al, Sci­en­tif­ic and Cul­tur­al Or­gan­i­sa­tion (Un­esco), The Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies, The Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion in Trinidad and To­ba­go, The Del­e­ga­tion of the Eu­ro­pean Union to Trinidad and To­ba­go, The Unit­ed Na­tions En­vi­ron­ment Pro­gramme Re­gion­al Of­fice for Latin Amer­i­ca and the Caribbean (UN­EP RO­LAC), bpTT, and the Cari­com Sec­re­tari­at. Dr Tim Gopeesingh, Min­is­ter of Ed­u­ca­tion will de­liv­er the fea­ture ad­dress.

The work­shop is be­ing un­der­tak­en as a part of The Crop­per Foun­da­tion's Pro­gramme for En­vi­ron­ment and Re­source Ed­u­ca­tion (IERE Pro­gramme) and it seeks to pro­vide tar­get­ed sup­port to DESD-re­lat­ed ini­tia­tives with­in the Caribbean re­gion. Par­tic­i­pants will in­clude ESD prac­ti­tion­ers, re­searchers, uni­ver­si­ty stu­dents, sec­ondary school stu­dents, teach­ers, NGOs and in­ter­gov­ern­men­tal or­gan­i­sa­tions prin­ci­pal­ly from around the Caribbean Re­gion (Bar­ba­dos, Be­lize, Cos­ta Ri­ca, Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic, Guyana, Haiti, Ja­maica, St Lu­cia, and Trinidad and To­ba­go.) Se­lect­ed ex­perts from Cana­da, the Unit­ed States and the Unit­ed King­dom will al­so at­tend. A to­tal of one hun­dred and fifty peo­ple are ex­pect­ed at the event. Mem­bers of the me­dia are in­vit­ed to at­tend and cov­er this event.
