Pedicab, a one-of-a-kind service set to ease traffic congestion and provide a safe and eco-friendly transportation alternative on "The Avenue," is being offered by Digicel. The service was launched on May 4 on Ariapita Avenue, Woodbrook. Pedicabs are human-powered tricycles that can accommodate two passengers seated behind the driver/rider. They are made of reinforced steel and equipped with electric turn signals, brake lights and a loud bell, and are considered a safe mode of alternative transportation in busy zones.
Running solely on pedal power, they have a non-existent carbon footprint, making them environmentally friendly as well. A release from Digicel stated that its drivers have gone through rigorous training and have detailed knowledge of the area. They will be clearly identified by official ID cards. The service will run during the week from Wednesday–Saturday evenings throughout Ariapita Avenue and environs from 6 pm to midnight, free of charge to the public.
