The rustic wedding theme has been popular for the past few years in the USA. The term "rustic" can describe various types of wedding styles–from country, garden, barn, farm or even vintage-styled. It's probably the theme of choice for brides who prefer a more do-it-yourself (DIY) approach or of course for brides who love informal simplicity. But how can we take this theme and adapt it here in Trinidad & Tobago? We may not have cowboy boots, barns, hay stacks and cowbells readily at hand, but local brides can certainly say "howdy" to this laid-back theme by incorporating other elements.
Here's how:Clever use of accessories–Create the rustic mood by using dcor elements and accessories in your reception area that fit this theme, such as vintage books, mason jars, vintage suitcases, mismatched china, chalkboards, baskets, tin buckets, twigs, fruit, branches, lanterns, grapevine wreaths, chicken wire, arbors, bunting and bird houses. You can even hang chandeliers and lanterns from the trees if you're having an outdoor wedding.
Wedding cakes can feature fondant motifs and decorations such as birds and birds' nests, mice, leaves, mushrooms, wild flowers and fondant textures that mimic tree bark or burlap.
Menu ideas–A menu that will suit this type of wedding will be casual or "picnic-styled food" such as bar-b-que, home-styled fried chicken, coleslaw, potato salad, corn on the cob, hot wings, corn bread and macaroni and cheese.
Dessert table–Nothing reads country and rustic more than pies, so perhaps have a selection of pies, tarts and home-made cakes. Should you want a traditional candy buffet, add a rustic touch to it by giving guests brown paper bags or burlap drawstring bags to fill their candy into.
Wedding favours can be edible such as: honey, jam bottles topped with gingham cloth squares, custom granola, pie pops, a cookie mix or a selection of country music tunes.
