Digicel Foundation launches art competition

In com­mem­o­ra­tion of the 100th an­niver­sary of the city of Port-of-Spain, the Dig­i­cel Foun­da­tion launched a mur­al com­pe­ti­tion ti­tled the Dig­i­cel Foun­da­tion Ex­tra­or­di­nary T&T Art Com­pe­ti­tion on Feb­ru­ary 18.

The Ex­tra­or­di­nary T&T-themed mur­al com­pe­ti­tion, which runs from Feb­ru­ary 18 to March 16, has been in­cor­po­rat­ed to fur­ther com­ple­ment and beau­ti­fy the Nel­son Man­dela Port-of-Spain City Cor­po­ra­tion/Dig­i­cel Foun­da­tion Play and Fit­ness Zone that was of­fi­cial­ly launched in 2013.

In 2014, the Dig­i­cel Foun­da­tion added state-of-the-art play park equip­ment and used the ini­tia­tive to launch their first Kid­die Car­ni­val Pump.

With $16,000 in prizes to be won, the com­pe­ti­tion is open to all cit­i­zens of T&T be­tween the ages of 12�35 years. One win­ner will be se­lect­ed from each of four age groups to have their art­work dis­played in the park, cour­tesy Dig­i­cel Foun­da­tion, a re­lease said.

All par­tic­i­pants com­pet­ing will be al­lowed one en­try that must be orig­i­nal. The art­work can be craft­ed through draw­ings or paint­ings done with oil, acrylic and wa­ter colours.

It should, how­ev­er, be not­ed that dig­i­tal, pho­to­copies or com­put­er-gen­er­at­ed art­work will be in­el­i­gi­ble.

The judg­ing cri­te­ria will be based on two cat­e­gories, the first be­ing In­spi­ra­tion which seeks to fo­cus on the imag­i­na­tion and cre­ativ­i­ty of the art­work; the sec­ond cat­e­go­ry deals with the Rel­e­vance to the theme; how the art­work de­picts T&T as ex­tra­or­di­nary.

Par­tic­i­pants are asked to re­frain from any cre­ations that may be abu­sive, defam­a­to­ry, of­fen­sive, deroga­to­ry, de­grad­ing and/or oth­er­wise un­ac­cept­able in na­ture.

The dead­line for all art en­tries is 5 pm on March 16.
