In recognition of the significant contribution of Margaret Walcott to the development of the Arts in T&T, the Patrons of Queen's Hall (The Patrons), of which she was a charter member, has launched a bursary in her honour. The Margaret Walcott Bursary will be presented next month and will be the first of a series of events in her memory.

Walcott will be remembered for her work with Queen's Hall as the general manager at the time of the redesign and refurbishment of the venue. She was a pillar of strength to the then chairman of the board of management, Val Rogers, as both shared the same vision for an improved Hall.Visionary and resourceful, Walcott, as a director of the Patrons, contributed to the expansion of the group's vision by, not only supporting the creation of a first class performance space but also creating a space for nurturing and training young talented people in the performing arts.

Her work with Noble Douglas in developing the Patrons of Queen's Hall Theatre Camp, as an annual training ground for young artistes, remains a testimony to her foresight. The Patrons continues to run this camp and some of the earliest members, who are today successful performers in their different genres, support the camp by offering their services as trainers.

It is therefore in this context that the Patrons of Queen's Hall is pleased to offer the Margaret Walcott Bursary to young upcoming performers. The bursary will be offered in the fields of drama, voice, dance, instruments and design (inclusive of Carnival Arts design). The award for 2015 will provide the selectee with a grant of $10,000 and will be offered in the field of dance.

Applicants, who must be between eight and 28 years of age, must demonstrate their acceptance into, current enrolment in, or evidence of pursuing additional training in a related area at a recognized tertiary institution or professional dance company.
