Two women have been killed in the past four because of their association/links with alleged gang members and gangs.
The latest victim was identified as Carissa Pierre, 22, who was shot six times in the head near her home in Tunapuna on Tuesday night.
Preliminary investigations by police revealed Pierre was known to be affiliated with members of the Rasta City gang and it is believed she was killed because of an ongoing rivalry with members from the Rasta City and Muslims gang.
However, Pierre’s close friends and family have refuted police’s claims, saying she was not involved in any gang and gang-related activities. A relative, who wished not to be identified, said Pierre “was very outgoing and had a lot of friends.”
According to a police report, at about 9.15 pm six shots were heard near Pierre’s #5 Lovell Trace, Monte Grande home. Upon checks, Pierre was discovered dead on the roadway.
On Saturday, Rachel Mohammed, 30, and her friend, a woman, were standing near Mohammed’s Dookiesingh Street, St Augustine home at about 11.20 pm when a gunman walked up to them and opened fire. Mohammed and her friend were taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mount Hope, where they treated and warded.
Mohammed, who underwent surgery, succumbed to her injuries on Sunday shortly after 10 am. One of Mohammed’s relatives said they believe she was the intended target of the gunman because she knew of certain activities and the alleged people involved.
In a separate incident, Allister Campbell, 42, was fatally shot inside his home at Unity Lane in Carapo shortly after 9 am yesterday. Police believe his murder was a direct hit made from a high-profile prisoner. They also believe Campbell’s killing was a reprisal to Monday’s murder where a man identified as Arnold Joseph, 39, of Pinewood Drive, Carapo, was stabbed to death.
The murder toll now stands at 117. There were 41 murders in January 2019 and 42 last month. At the end of March 2018 the murder toll was at 135.
