1)Beryl is now a category 4 hurricane. Rains are expected to begin around 6 pm and will get progressively worse
2)Notice of school closures will come this afternoon. The Ministry of Education will report on Trinidad school closures. The THA will report on the closure of schools in Tobago.
3)All public servants are expected to go to work. Closure of the private sector remains at the companies’ discretion.
4)The airports and seaports remain open. Caribbean Airlines has added additional flights out of Tobago (however he warns not everyone may be able to get a flight out). There has been an additional sailing added as well
5)Utility companies are all on standby and mobilised in Tobago, with T&TEC setting up a generator station in Shaw Park, Tobago. WASA and T&TEC will monitor conditions and update as necessary. Remember during times of heavy rainfall, turbidity can result in water loss.
6) The Ministry has opened several car parks for those in low-lying areas whose cars may be at risk. (Brian Lara Cricket Academy, SAPA, Naparima Bowl, Skinner Park Secondary Field, UPark at San Fernando General Hospital.
7) T&T is preparing for an influx of boats/ships heading to our waters. The government is prepared to welcome them
8) Preparedness begins with you. Farmers are asked to secure livestock. Citizens asked to clear waterways in and around their homes.
9) Have an emergency plan where necessary. The Ministry of Rural Development will publish a list of emergency numbers and shelters.
